Reasons to Stop Seeking a Balanced Life

Do you ever feel like you’re constantly chasing after balance in your life? Many of us can relate to this struggle. But what if I told you that the idea of a “balanced life” might not be what God wants for us? Here are five reasons to consider why we should stop seeking balance:

  • Everything should be out of balance compared to knowing Christ: In Philippians 3:10, we’re encouraged to count everything else as worthless compared to knowing Jesus. This means our lives should be centered around knowing and following Him, even if it means things seem unbalanced in other areas.

  • Balance and comfort aren’t the same: Sometimes when we talk about balance, what we really mean is that we want our lives to be comfortable. But the reality is, there will be seasons of pouring out and seasons of rest. We need to embrace both and trust that God is at work in every season.

  • Trouble is inevitable: Jesus promised us trouble in this world (John 16:33). It doesn’t necessarily mean our lives are out of balance; it’s just a reality of living in a broken world. Instead of striving for perfect balance, we should focus on trusting God in the midst of trials.

  • We’re called to lose our lives: In Matthew 16:25, Jesus tells us that whoever loses their life for His sake will find it. This means putting God first and others before ourselves, even if it seems unbalanced by the world’s standards.

  • Seeking God first leads to an out-of-balance life: When we prioritize seeking God and His kingdom above all else (Matthew 6:33), our lives will naturally be out of balance. We may be misunderstood, called to give sacrificially, and serve in ways that others don’t understand.

Ultimately, our goal shouldn’t be to achieve perfect balance in our lives. Instead, we should focus on loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. This may mean embracing seasons of imbalance and trusting that God is leading us every step of the way. So let go of the pursuit of balance and seek God first in all things.
