Youth and Their Attitude Towards Celebrities

In today’s world, celebrities have a strong influence on young people. Through music, movies, sports, and social media, many youths admire and follow the lives of famous people. It is common to see young people dressing like their favourite stars, repeating their words, or trying to live like them. While this admiration may seem harmless, it is important for youths to develop a godly and balanced attitude towards celebrities.
Many celebrities are talented individuals who have worked hard to succeed in their fields. Some are actors, musicians, athletes, or influencers who entertain and inspire millions of people. There is nothing wrong with appreciating talent or learning from the discipline and dedication that helped them succeed. For example, a young person may be inspired by an athlete’s commitment to training or a musician’s passion for creativity.
However, problems begin when admiration turns into unhealthy obsession. Some youths place celebrities on a pedestal and treat them almost like idols. They may copy everything the celebrity does without asking whether those actions are right or wrong. Unfortunately, not every celebrity lifestyle reflects good values. Some promote behaviours that go against godly principles, such as pride, immorality, materialism, or disrespect.
For young Christians, it is important to remember that fame does not equal wisdom or righteousness. Being popular does not automatically mean someone is a good role model. The Bible reminds believers in Romans 12:2 not to conform to the patterns of the world but to be transformed by renewing the mind. This means young people should measure every influence, including celebrities, against God’s Word.
A wise attitude towards celebrities is to appreciate them without losing one’s identity and values. Youths should learn to ask simple but important questions: Does this person’s life honour God? Do their words encourage good character? Would following their example bring me closer to Christ? These questions help young people develop discernment.
Another healthy approach is for youths to choose godly role models. There are many individuals—pastors, teachers, missionaries, community leaders, and even faithful parents—whose lives reflect humility, integrity, and love for God. These may not always be the most famous people, but their lives offer examples worth following.
Parents, teachers, and church leaders also have a role to play. Instead of simply criticising celebrity culture, they should guide young people to think wisely about what they watch, listen to, and celebrate. Open conversations help youths understand the difference between entertainment and influence.
Ultimately, every young person should remember that their greatest example is Jesus Christ. While celebrities may come and go, Christ remains the perfect model of love, humility, obedience, and truth. When youths keep their eyes on Him, they will be able to enjoy entertainment without allowing it to control their values.
Celebrities may shine brightly in the public eye, but true greatness is found in a life that honours God. When young people learn this truth, they can appreciate talent, avoid harmful influence, and grow into individuals whose lives reflect godly character.
