Magnifying the Lord Through Poetry
Have you ever written a poem and thought, “Is this even good?” or “What’s the point of this?” Here’s the truth: when your words are used to glorify God, they carry more power than you realize.
To magnify means to make something appear bigger, clearer, or more visible. Obviously, we can’t literally make God bigger, He’s already infinite! But when we magnify Him through our lives, our words, and our art, we help others see who He really is: His love, His beauty, His truth, and His presence.
And poetry? It’s like a magnifying glass for the soul.
Poetry allows you to express things you might not say out loud. It gives rhythm to your worship, structure to your thoughts, and power to your praise.
You don’t need to be a professional poet to write something meaningful. Whether you’re feeling joyful, broken, thankful, or questioning, your words matter to God. And when you write from the heart with the intention of lifting Him up, you’re magnifying Him in a personal, powerful way.
Here’s a simple challenge:
- Start with Scripture – Pick a verse that speaks to you.
- Reflect – What does it tell you about God? How does it make you feel?
- Write Freely – Don’t worry about rhyme or length. Just write what’s real.
- Share It – Post it. Read it to a friend. Or simply offer it to God in prayer.
Let your words reflect His wonder. Use your poetry to magnify the Lord.
You were made to create. You were made to praise.
