Midweek Check-In: Are You Pouring From an Empty Cup?
It’s midweek already, and if you’re anything like most of us, life’s been moving at full speed. School deadlines. Church activities. Family responsibilities. Friendships to keep up with. Maybe you’re trying to show up for everyone, do everything, and be everywhere. But here’s the question we don’t ask ourselves often enough:
Are you pouring from an empty cup?
In other words, are you giving out energy, love, support, encouragement, and strength… when deep down, you’re tired, drained, or even numb?
Let’s be honest, it’s easy to get so caught up in “doing” that we forget to just be. We want to help others, serve God, be a light, but sometimes, we try to do all that while completely running on fumes. And sooner or later, it catches up with us. Burnout is real. Anxiety is real. Exhaustion, emotional, spiritual, and mental is real.
But here’s the truth: God never asked you to do it all on empty
Even Jesus, in all His power and purpose, took time to rest. He stepped away from the crowd. He paused to pray. He took care of His soul. If Jesus needed quiet time with the Father, how much more do we?
You can’t give what you don’t have. You can’t lead others in peace if you’re walking in chaos. You can’t shine brightly if your fire is going out. Taking care of yourself, your spirit, your heart, your mind, isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.
So this midweek, check in with yourself:
* Have you spent time with God this week, just talking and listening?
* Have you had enough sleep, enough water, enough stillness?
* Are you surrounded by people who refill you, or are you constantly giving without receiving?
* When was the last time you breathed deeply and reminded yourself that you are not God, you’re allowed to rest?
Friend, it’s okay to pause. It’s okay to say “I need a break.” It’s okay to step away and refill your cup with God’s Word, His love, and His peace. He wants to strengthen you, not just use you. He wants you whole, not just busy.
So before you pour out one more drop this week, let God pour back into you.
